GIANT BD3X Axis 4-Post - Half Rack Functional Trainer (Short)
BD3X AXIS Rack — Built to Grow With You
The BD3X AXIS Rack is a fully modular rack system that’s designed out of the box to elevate your training. Built with massive 11 gauge 3"x3" uprights, 2" hole spacing, and 1" diameter holes this rack plays well with a ton of popular components and accessories out there, including our BD3X series options.
We created this rack to hit the sweet spot between value and performance. It’s solid where it counts and completely overbuilt for years of hard training.
Color Options:
Every rack comes with three upright color options, but all the crossmembers come as space black.
(Space Black & Bright Red)
What sets it apart?
A fluid cable pulley system powered by heavy-duty machined steel guide rails—not the hollow kind. These rails connect to a precision aluminum bracket that cuts down the wobble and keeps the weight stack perfectly aligned. It’s one of those small details that make a big difference—and yeah, we made sure not to overlook it.
The cable pulley system wouldn't be smooth without aluminum bearing pulleys and a 1,000 lb capacity wiring system. We built this system to be affordable out of the gate.
Start with a dual 160 lb weight stacks (320 lbs total) or a dual 210 lb weight stacks (420 lbs total). If you start with a 160 lb dual stack and want to upgrade the stack to 210 lbs later, we will launch a conversion kit in the coming months whenever you're ready—easy upgrade, no hassle.
Out of the box, your AXIS Half Rack includes:
All of your functional trainer component needs for assembly
Your Choice: 160lb or 210lb Dual Weight Stacks (2:1 Ratio)
Pair of newly designed 3X 2.0 J-cups
Rubber-Coated D-handles
A 1.25" EZ Grip standard pull-up bar
Massive 1" black zinc hardware throughout the rack
Key Features:
The AXIS System runs on 3/16" (.1875") aircraft-grade cables— and nylon-coated for long-term durability. These premium 7-strand, 19-wire cables offer the perfect mix of resilience and flexibility, built to handle constant movement over pulleys and wraps around your rack with authority. Every AXIS rack is decked out with ball-bearing aluminum pulleys—for the smoothest pulls possible. Because let’s be honest: lifting’s already hard enough.

Peep Hole
Eliminate the guesswork with a peephole that aligns perfectly with the laser-cut numbers on the rack’s upright—making height adjustments quick, easy, and accurate.

Locking Pin
To top it off, we’ve included an oversized locking pin. It's intentionally overbuilt so you won’t have to fumble with multiple pins when adjusting height—just one pin, rock-solid, every time.
Knurled Handle
Everything’s better with knurling—so we added a light aggressive volcano pattern to the trolley handle for a solid, no-slip grip when adjusting along the rack.
Rods & Weight Plates
Let’s be real—guide rods and weight stacks aren’t the sexiest part of a functional trainer. But when it comes to getting the smoothest pull possible, they’re absolutely critical. We found that solid machined steel rods (not hollow) are a must. Hollow rods create reverberation and allow for side-to-side movement, which messes with the feel and adds noise.
After a ton of testing, we landed on plastic-lined weight plates that make precise contact with the rods, dramatically reducing movement and making each pull feel smooth. To take it even further, we added an aluminum alignment connector on the top plate to keep everything perfectly in line from top to bottom along the rod. You may not think about rods and plates while you’re lifting—but trust us, you’ll feel the difference. We obsessed over the details so you can stay focused on lifting.
Want to build out your setup? We’ve got a full lineup of accessories:
Spotter arms for lifts outside the rack
Dip stations for core and triceps work
Landmine attachment for rotational and athletic training
Storage shelves for all your gear—dumbbells, kettlebells, bumpers, medicine balls

I chose to update my home gym as the cable/pulley system on my old, 90's weight wrack was... problematic and rate-limiting step at times. So I targeted the pulley system when searching for a replacement. The website put out a pretty compelling story that they prioritized the pulley system so, along with the decent price, free shipping and $700 coupon, I took the plunge and purchased the BD3X functional trainer.
One other item that was key for me was the option for a shorter cage. The short version barely fits with in my finished basement and does add some limitations, but most other trainers on the market simple were not an option for me.
Delivery was reasonably speedy.
Installation could have gone much better. The video was helpful, but far from complete. Certain details were glossed over. In particular the cable adjustment handles come as L and R. The paper instructions (predominately images, very little dialogue) did state L and R, but I followed the video. I got them wrong and take credit for this oversight... couldn't wait to get at it, but it could have been more clear. Having to disassemble a good deal of it far down stream when it was clear there were issues led to the assembly taking >6h.
There were other things in the video/instructions that were less than ideal or missing such as you need a monster socket (36mm and 1/2" socket wrench) which I didn't have (outside of a farm and a combine, not sure why anybody would?!!!). Having to go get them AFTER it arrived (could have done this while being shipped) was frustrating and added more time to the assembly.
That being said... once assembled... I love it!!! The cables/pulleys are as smooth as promised. The 11g steal is imposing and the cage is solid. With the industry standard 3x3 cage and 1" openings the list of available options that can be added is immense! So many more exercises are now available to me I don't know where to begin! My workouts (for now) are rather inefficient as there are SO many new things to try! Lovely problem to have!
I've been using it for about 2 wks now, so a bit premature but I wish I had done this sooner and would definitely do it again!
Finally setup my Axis system and have been using it the last week. The install was a little complicated as the instructions were not in a box that was labeled so didnt find them till about halfway in. They sent a video to me ahead of my delivery with instructions which was nice but the video could do with more close ups of the process as well as highlighting specific socket sizes. Everything was well wrapped and shipping only took a few days to get to me once I ordered. For the rack itself, the pulley system works really smooth so far and no issues. Very easy to adjust and love the ability to add things. I would note I got a separate set of 3x legs directly from them that may not be suited for the Axis system. The legs cause the middle posts to not sit completely flat. Overall, very happy with the purchase and process. Can't wait to buy more attachments later.
Initially I was looking at plate loaded racks, but the Axis was so competitively priced it persuaded me away. The convenience of the selectorized weight can't be emphasized enough. The value is amazing, especially with the weight stack upgrades. The cable exercises are smooth and the trolley isn't too heavy. The customer service was a huge plus for me as well. They quickly answered all my questions before purchasing. Also, while I accidentally received the wrong cable length, they took care of it very quickly. I am a happy customer!
I put this together on my own. I highly recommend, as the instructions say, to have a second person with. I would also recommend using the video that is now available over the instructions. There are a few key components that are incorrect and the video makes it simple.
Overall, fantastic quality for the price. Especially with their original coupon. Do not hesitate, just buy it!
